What Is Overdraft Privilege?
Overdraft privilege is a way for us to help our members avoid the nasty fees and complications that come with over-drafting your account. We understand that mistakes happen sometimes, and we want to make sure you don’t suffer because of them. This is a program that any of our members can opt into as long as they’ve been with us for at least 90 days and are in good standing. Once you are, you can opt in and rest easy knowing that your money is safe from this type of accident.
Of course, you’re probably wondering how much you can overdraft by. In most cases, we’ll cover overdrafts of anywhere between $500 and $700. This includes any fees that occur because of the overdraft. After you’ve gone over, you have 30 days to bring your account back up to avoid further fees. As long as you’re simply waiting on your next paycheck, this should never be a concern for you.
Why Should You Opt In?
Some people get worried when they hear about the fees associated with our overdraft coverage—that’s totally understandable. Generally, opting into this program is always worth it, though, because the fees associated with overdrafts outside of the program will be much worse. As an established credit union, we want to do what we can to protect our members, but we still need to protect ourselves in order to continue serving you.
If you have any further questions about our overdraft privilege program, feel free to reach out to us through our contact page. We’ll be more than happy to quell any of your concerns and go into more detail about what this program’s benefits will look like for you.
